Charity work is not something that David Beckham necessarily talks about, but it is something that he is a very big supporter of. In January 2005, UNICEF awarded David with the role of Goodwill Ambassador as a show of appreciation for his support. As one of the world’s most recognisable sports stars, his special focus was on UNICEF’s Sports Development Programme. As a father of three, a subject obviously very close to David’s heart is the plight of children across the globe. As David said when he was appointed, “It is one of the proudest moments of my life to be given the role of UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and I hope to play a part in supporting children at their time of need.”
